Haydn Mozart BeethovenThe Esterhazy Singers traced their roots with a programme featuring works by Haydn, Mozart and Beethoven. Beethoven was born in Bonn, Germany; Haydn was born in Rohrau, Austria and Mozart in Salzburg, Austria. The paths of these three great masters were all destined to cross when they traveled to Vienna. It is believed that at an early age Beethoven went to Vienna to perform for Mozart and that later on he studied with Haydn. Mozart and Haydn had a well documented acquaintance - both dedicating works to each other, and no doubt, meeting in Vienna when Haydn was away from his duties at the Esterhazy Court. The concert programme was: Mozart Vesperae solennes de confessore (1780), Beethoven Elegische Gesang (1814) and Haydn Paukenmesse (1796). A full audience enjoyed a spirited rendition of the works with a 25 piece orchestra.
