Choral Scholarship for young singers 2023-24

Building on their successful choral scholarship scheme for young singers, the Esterhazy Singers are pleased to invite applications for this year’s scheme. The choir is based in the City of London under the leadership of David Halstead who has been Musical Director of the choir since 2021.

This is an excellent opportunity for a young person to gain invaluable experience in choral singing both as ensemble member and soloist. Successful applicants will receive £1000 per annum, paid in 3 equal parts after each term. There are normally 4 or 5 public performances a year. Choral scholars will be expected to attend regular rehearsals, usually on Tuesdays at 19:00 at St Margaret Pattens, Eastcheap, and to sing at all performances including solo opportunities. There can also be opportunities for further development of skills in choral leadership and conducting specific to each candidate’s experience.

Applicants should be between 18 and 25 years old and ideally should be considering a career in solo and ensemble singing or just starting in that field.

A CV is required, and references will be required for successful applicants. Shortlisted applicants will be asked to join a rehearsal when there will be an audition with David Halstead and a short meeting with two members of the choir’s committee.

Those interested should apply by email to scholarships@esterhazysingers.com

Applicants may also with to consider jointly applying for the St John at Hackney choral scholarship (see http://saint.church/hackneychoir) for a combined £2000 scholarship.

Previous scholars have happily combined both positions. If interested in both scholarship opportunities, please state in your email – the audition process can be combined for interested candidates
